Welcome to my hood, Möllevången aka Möllan.
Just a quick introduction to where I live in Malmö, “the most colorful district“. Not like I didn’t know. I grab last minute groceries at Baghdad Shop, drink cheap beer at Indian Curry Hut, eat the best tom-kha talay at Krua Thai, buy my favorite Japanese snacks at Asien Trading, and am tempted every day of my life to splurge on a kebab or falafel from the Middle Eastern cafes that are on what seems like every corner. The main square, Möllevångstorget, is about 2 minutes from my apartment and where you can find a pretty nice little outdoor market with fruit, vegetables and flowers that is open daily (except in winter). There are also tons of cafes lining the square that become packed with people as soon as the sun starts to shine. And lots of history in this hood – it’s were all the workers used to live back in the day when Malmö was the most industrialized town in Scandinavia. Now it’s full of hipsters, hippies, and junkies.
Folkets Park is also just around the corner from me. Definitely not the nicest park in town, but the one that probably has the most happening. Here you will find tons of people just chilling out on the grass when it is warm, Debaser (restaurant/bar/club with the perfect patio for enjoying some chilled rosé) and a really creepy amusement park.
Möllan is where the cool kids hang out and definitely an area you should go out of your way to visit when in Malmö. Just get off at Triangeln Station instead of Malmö Central. Some of, actually most of the best bars, clubs and restaurants in town are found here and it has much more of a relaxed vibe than say Lilla Torg, Svennebanan Central.
Very proud to call this neighborhood, as well as the city of Malmö, my home.

June 4, 2012 at 11:56 amOh yea, I’ll show you the ropes! Forgot to mention, much cheaper than the rest of Malmö and of course Copenhagen.
Make your next trip to Copenhagen a “two nation vacation”, definitely.

June 17, 2014 at 7:25 amI have been told that crime in Mollan is high even during the day. Is this just paranoia is is there some truth to this? I would like to live here as it sounds really nice but I need to know that I won’t be knifed in broad daylight:))

May 14, 2015 at 4:04 pmHey, I’m in Malmo now and not far from the neighbourhood.
When the sun starts to cool off, which bars should I check out?

March 18, 2016 at 4:20 amGreat info. Is Mollan considered the Innercity part of Malmo? I know the city is broken up into 5 parts including innercity. If that’s not the area, is it in north, south, east or west part?
Can you recommend some apartment rental companies that I can use to find an apartment in Mollan? I’m in the States and doing a secondhand rental might be too complicated from over here. So it would be great to work directly with a company.
Thank you so very much.

March 20, 2016 at 10:57 amTo be honest, I’m not sure but I would imagine it is considered innercity – located south of the center and bus station, and north of Sodra Sofielund. Look for “Möllevången” on the map rather than Mollan. Unfortunately I also can’t recommend any apartment rental companies as I never had to deal with any of them :( What I do remember from my time there though was it was not that easy to find a firsthand rental, there were lines of Swedes waiting to grab them first, but maybe things have changed. Best of luck with it all!
