Oh sweet Midsummer, how I love thee. So much so that I have decided to make some videos about you!
This is the first installment of my Midsummer in Sweden video series – starring me and my friends. Almost forgot how much fun it is to make videos on my iPhone and now that I have the 4s, the quality is so much better. I said quality, not technique. If there is anything I learned over the weekend it’s that I need to a) work on my skills as a host and b) HOLD THE CAMERA STILL. And straight. I blame the snaps.
Just a couple endnotes:
1. The location is at my friend Fidde’s cottage in Grötsjön (literally “porridge lake”) about 2 hours northwest of Malmö.
2. It’s pronounced schnaps, not snaps, and basically means SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS of herbal 40% alcohol.
3. I picked seven flowers to put under my pillow so that I would dream about my future husband, or so they say. Go figure I didn’t have any dreams that night.
4. We were on a lake, not a delta (see #1). That’s whatever it was.
5. I’ve switched over to Vimeo. Still trying to figure out if it was a good choice.
CHECK OUT PART TWO, you know you wanna…

June 28, 2012 at 3:40 amthis is the 2nd year in a row i missed midsummer in norway…im not happy about it (but i guess it could be worse) because of videos like this :)
and i think your technique is great! mine is horrible and i dont know how to possibly be more still than i already am when i shoot a video and i only realize it when on imovie. blah. i def prefer vimeo though…better quality! :)
glad you enjoyed midsummer and i got to experience it through you!

June 28, 2012 at 10:11 amIs it a huge holiday in Norway too? Like work shuts down and stuff? It is a good time! Vimeo is cool, much more sleek, but lame you can only upload like 1 video a week. I think I will probably go pro..

June 28, 2012 at 3:10 pmyea i dont have pro either and its stupid…but there was one week where i uploaded 4 so im not sure how much they stick by their little rule (i deleted and uploaded, deleted and uploaded…not sure if that makes a difference).
i dont know if norway shuts down for midsummer…i just know they celebrate it and call it something unusual :) i wouldnt be surprised if they get it off work…they get off the most obscure of days.

June 28, 2012 at 10:17 amI’m sorry I am making you so homesick! I don’t think I have met a traveling Swede that doesn’t miss their country when they are away. I think that says a lot – it’s such a wonderful place to live.

June 29, 2012 at 1:29 amGreat job on the video and it reminds me of a Crayfish Party.
The Swedish know how to party.

June 29, 2012 at 9:21 amOh yes they do and thanks. Super excited that I will also be here in August and therefore available for any and all crayfish parties that may come my way. Food, drink and drunkness is pretty much the same – just with different hats and in the company of crustaceans.
