I was recently asked by a online music streaming service to create a travel themed playlist for their site. Given my love for incorporating jams into my blog posts whenever I can (please tell me you’ve noticed by now), I was way into the idea and came up with this very random, mixed collection called Songs to Rock While Traveling the World that I am now publishing here for your listening pleasure.
Enjoy and check below the Youtube or Spotify player for more details, visuals and/or direct URLs for each selection.
Before Daft Punk turned lame. I like listening to this song on airplanes, it kinda pumps me up.
Never been to Australia, but I already have an idea of what I would do with it once I finally get there which includes listening to this song. A lot.
A semi-angry song to listen to once you start getting tired of jetsetting and sleeping in strange beds.
Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way
Is there really any better way to go? The answer is no.
Keep myself riding on this train..
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Around the World
Life is indeed beautiful around the world.
Tits out, pants down, overnight to London.
Yuksek – On A Train (The Magician Remix)
My theme song for 4,000+ miles spent traveling around Europe with a rail pass on The Blonde Gypsy Ambition tour.
Gogol Bordello – Wonderlust King
A song that reminds me of my first trip to Ukraine. It also reminds me of Poland and backstage shenanigans.
Something for the moms.
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Proud Mary
Something for the dads.
N.W.A. – 100 Miles and Runnin’
No playlist is complete without some hardcore gangster rap from straight outta Compton.
And I ride and I ride and I ride…
The Postal Service – Such Great Heights
Everything looks perfect from far away.
The Sounds – Shake, Shake Shake
You’re traveling along an empty highway, how long will it last?
A fun song for fun road trips that I forgot to include when discussing the one I took from Spain to Andorra.
Murray Head – One Night in Bangkok
Good song to play whilst having a one night stand with any city, or ladyboy for that matter.
Thankfully I’ve been able to take this call on multiple occasions.
Peter Bjorn and John – Amsterdam
Baby went to Amsterdam, she put a little money into traveling.
Siouxsie and the Banshees – Hong Kong Garden
Hong Kong elements in the air.
If turning Japanese means an increase in the amount of sushi, karaoke, and Tokyo in my life, sign me up.
LOS ANGELES. Never bought a clock on Hollywood Boulevard the day I left, but I have gotten confused flying over the dateline.
LCD Soundsystem – North American Scum
How I feel every time I step off the plane anywhere outside of North America.
I’ve been to Hollywood, I’ve been to Redwood, I crossed the ocean…that keeps me searching for a heart of gold.
Yes. Yes, it is.
Any songs you think should be added to this list? I was only limited to 25, but I can probably think of 25 more and will.
